Before Becoming a Shoe Maker

Jimmy Choo was born in Penang, Malaysia in 1961. He was born into a family of shoemakers, and is reported to have made his first shoe at the age of eleven. The name Jimmy Choo is not, as some men may think, Cockney slang for shoe!

He graduated from Cordwainers Technical College in Hackney, London in 1983. This college is now part of the London College of Fashion. He is said to have done part-time jobs during studying in order to pay for college.
