Basic facts about bees:

  • Bees make honey to feed their young
  • Bees live in colonies
  • A colony of bees consists of 20,000-60,000 honeybees and one queen bee
  • Bees see every color except red
  • Bees eat pollen from flowers

Preschool Bee Craft*

Materials: Craft spoons (wooden), black pipe cleaners, yellow foam, yellow markers, black markers, googley eyes, small black pompoms, glue, scissors

Instructions: Cut bee wings from yellow foam. Next, cut pipe cleaners two inches long. Fold the pipe cleaner in half. Encourage children to glue the pipe cleaners onto the back of the craft spoon to serve as antennae. Next, glue pom-poms on the tip of the pipe cleaner ends. Children can color the bees with yellow and black markers. Next help children glue on the eyes and the wings.
