Wait until the movie Beastly (2011) comes out on DVD, and only rent it if you are really, really bored. This teenage movie might be great as a filler background entertainment for a slumber party or for an all-girl teenage pizza party, but it is definitely a disappointment as a modern rendition of Beauty and the Beast.
Review of the Plot of the Movie Beastly
Rich and gorgeous Kyle Kingson (Alex Pettyfer) angers Kendra (Mary-Kate Olsen), a witch in his high school, with his outward arrogance and cruel behavior toward her. She curses him to wear his inner ugliness on the outside for a year. This curse will be permanent if he does not find someone to tell him "I love you" by the time spring flowers magically show up on the tattoo on his arm.
Kyle tries to woo Lindy Taylor (Vanessa Hudgens), as he is fascinated by her. He keeps her in his hideaway that his father provided, building her a greenhouse and trying to listen to her needs and win her over. Kyle's lessons of learning to be less self-absorbed are aided by his Jamaican housemaid Zola (Lisa Gay Hamilton) and his blind tutor Will (Neil Patrick Harris).
